Narasimha Brata Katha – The divine story of Lord Vishnu’s Narasimha avatar and Hiranyakashipu.
Long ago the powerful asura king Hiranyakashipu performed severe penance and received a rare boon from Lord Brahma.
অনেক কাল আগে অসুররাজ হিরণ্যকশিপু কঠোর তপস্যা করে ব্রহ্মার কাছ থেকে দুর্লভ বর লাভ করেন।
Through that boon he could not be killed by man or beast, neither in day nor night, neither indoors nor outdoors, neither on earth nor in the sky, and not by any weapon.
সেই বর অনুসারে মানুষে নয়, পশুতে নয়, দিনে নয় রাতে নয়, ঘরের ভিতরে নয় বাইরে নয়, ভূমিতে নয় আকাশে নয় এবং অস্ত্র দ্বারাও তার মৃত্যু হবে না।
This boon made him proud and he declared himself supreme.
এই বর লাভের পর সে অহংকারে নিজেকেই সর্বশক্তিমান বলে ঘোষণা করল।
He ordered all people to worship him alone and forbade devotion to Vishnu.
সে সকলকে নিজের পূজা করতে বলল এবং বিষ্ণুভক্তি নিষিদ্ধ করল।
But his own son Prahlada remained an unwavering devotee of Lord Vishnu.
কিন্তু তার পুত্র প্রহ্লাদ অবিচলভাবে ভগবান বিষ্ণুর ভক্ত ছিলেন।
Prahlada constantly chanted the Lord’s name and taught devotion even among the royal children.

Enraged by Prahlada’s devotion, Hiranyakashipu tried repeatedly to destroy him.

One day Hiranyakashipu asked mockingly, “Where is your God?”
একদিন উপহাস করে হিরণ্যকশিপু বলল—“তোর ঈশ্বর কোথায়?”
Prahlada replied, “He is everywhere.”
প্রহ্লাদ বললেন—“তিনি সর্বত্র আছেন।”
The king pointed to a pillar and challenged whether Vishnu was present there too.
রাজা স্তম্ভ দেখিয়ে বলল—এই স্তম্ভেও কি তোমার ঈশ্বর আছেন?
Prahlada answered with faith, “Yes.”
প্রহ্লাদ ভক্তিভরে বললেন—হ্যাঁ, আছেন।
In rage the king struck the pillar, and from it emerged Lord Narasimha with a terrifying roar.
ক্রোধে রাজা স্তম্ভে আঘাত করতেই প্রচণ্ড গর্জনে সেখান থেকে নৃসিংহদেব আবির্ভূত হলেন।
Half-man and half-lion, the Lord appeared in a form beyond all categories.
অর্ধমানব অর্ধসিংহ সেই রূপ সকল সীমার অতীত।

At twilight, neither day nor night, the Lord seized the demon.
সন্ধ্যাবেলায়—দিনও নয় রাতও নয়—প্রভু অসুরকে ধরলেন।
At the palace threshold, neither indoors nor outdoors, He placed him on His lap.
দোরগোড়ায়—ভিতরও নয় বাইরেও নয়—নিজ উরুর উপর বসালেন।
Using His nails, not weapons, He destroyed the tyrant.
অস্ত্র নয়, নখ দিয়ে অসুরবধ করলেন।
Thus every condition of Brahma’s boon remained true, yet evil was defeated.
এভাবে ব্রহ্মার বরের শর্ত অটুট রেখেও অধর্ম বিনষ্ট হল।

Even after slaying the demon, Narasimha remained fierce.
