Brahma replies that there is indeed a most secret and beneficial teaching for all beings. He begins to reveal the holy Kavacham of the Goddess, a sacred protective prayer worthy of being heard by the great sage.
The Goddess is praised through Her nine celebrated forms: Shailaputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta and Kushmanda. These forms represent the different manifestations of the Divine Mother worshipped in the Navadurga tradition.
The next forms are Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalaratri and Mahagauri. Together with Siddhidatri, these forms complete the sacred group known as the Navadurga, the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga.

वाराही दक्षिण दिशा की और खड्गधारिणी नैऋत्य दिशा की रक्षा करती हैं। वारुणी पश्चिम तथा मृगवाहिनी वायव्य दिशा की रक्षा करती हैं।
कौमारी उत्तर और शूलधारिणी ईशान दिशा की रक्षा करती हैं। ब्राह्मणी ऊपर और वैष्णवी नीचे से रक्षा करती हैं। इस प्रकार भक्त चारों ओर से देवी की सुरक्षा से घिरा हुआ माना जाता है।
चामुण्डा दसों दिशाओं की रक्षा करती हैं। जया आगे और विजया पीछे से रक्षा करती हैं। यह देवी की चारों ओर से प्राप्त होने वाली सुरक्षा और विजय का प्रतीक है।

जो व्यक्ति श्रद्धा और अनुशासन के साथ नियमित रूप से कवच का पाठ करता है, विशेषतः त्रिसन्ध्या में, उसे दिव्य शक्ति प्राप्त होने और आध्यात्मिक रूप से अजेय होने का पारम्परिक वर्णन मिलता है।
परम्परागत पाठ में भक्त को दीर्घायु और अकाल मृत्यु से सुरक्षा मिलने का वर्णन है। विभिन्न रोगों और कष्टों से रक्षा की बात भी भक्तिपरम्परा में की गई है।
कवच विभिन्न प्रकार के विष और हानिकारक प्रभावों से सुरक्षा की प्रार्थना करता है। इसमें शत्रुतापूर्ण मंत्र, यंत्र और अन्य नकारात्मक प्रभावों से रक्षा का भी उल्लेख है।
यह श्लोक पृथ्वी, आकाश और जल से संबंधित विभिन्न सूक्ष्म शक्तियों और जीवों का उल्लेख करता है। भक्त ऐसी सभी बाधक या हानिकारक शक्तियों से देवी की रक्षा चाहता है।
कवच भूत, प्रेत, यक्ष, गन्धर्व और राक्षस आदि शक्तियों से सुरक्षा की प्रार्थना करता है। यह देवी की उस पारम्परिक रक्षात्मक शक्ति को दर्शाता है जो भक्त को अदृश्य भय से बचाती है।
ब्रह्मराक्षस, वेताल, कूष्माण्ड और भैरव से संबंधित शक्तियों का भी उल्लेख मिलता है। हृदय में कवच स्थापित होने पर ऐसी बाधक शक्तियों के नष्ट होने का पारम्परिक विश्वास व्यक्त किया गया है।
कवच को मानसिक उन्नति, आध्यात्मिक तेज और यश की वृद्धि से जोड़ा गया है। नियमित साधना करने वाला व्यक्ति संसार में सम्मान और कीर्ति प्राप्त करने वाला बताया गया है।
कवच का पाठ करने के बाद चण्डी अर्थात् देवी माहात्म्य का पाठ करने की परम्परा का उल्लेख किया गया है। इसे देवी उपासना की पवित्र साधना के रूप में देखा जाता है।
परम्परागत पाठ में भक्त के परिवार में पुत्र-पौत्र आदि के माध्यम से वंश की वृद्धि का वर्णन मिलता है। जीवन के अंत में परम आध्यात्मिक स्थिति प्राप्त होने की भी बात कही गई है।
महामाया की कृपा से भक्त को परम आध्यात्मिक स्वरूप प्राप्त होने और शिव के साथ दिव्य आनन्द अनुभव करने का पारम्परिक वर्णन है। अंतिम श्लोक देवी की कृपा और आध्यात्मिक पूर्णता को सर्वोच्च फल के रूप में प्रस्तुत करता है।
ঋষি মার্কণ্ডেয় ব্রহ্মার কাছে সেই অত্যন্ত গোপন জ্ঞান প্রকাশ করার অনুরোধ করেন, যা মানুষের রক্ষা করে এবং সকলের কাছে প্রকাশ করা হয়নি।
ব্রহ্মা জানান যে সকল প্রাণীর কল্যাণের জন্য একটি অত্যন্ত গোপন ও পবিত্র কবচ রয়েছে। তিনি মহান ঋষির কাছে দেবীর সেই পবিত্র রক্ষাকবচ প্রকাশ করতে শুরু করেন।
শৈলপুত্রী, ব্রহ্মচারিণী, চন্দ্রঘণ্টা ও কুষ্মাণ্ডা প্রভৃতি দেবীর নবরূপের স্মরণ করা হয়। এই রূপগুলি নবদুর্গা পরম্পরায় শক্তির বিভিন্ন দিব্য প্রকাশকে নির্দেশ করে।
স্কন্দমাতা, কাত্যায়নী, কালরাত্রি ও মহাগৌরীর সঙ্গে সিদ্ধিদাত্রীকে স্মরণ করে নবদুর্গার নয়টি রূপ সম্পূর্ণ হয়। এগুলি দেবী দুর্গার বিভিন্ন শক্তির প্রকাশ।
ব্রহ্মার দ্বারা এই নয়টি নামকে নবদুর্গা হিসেবে বর্ণনা করা হয়েছে। এই রূপগুলির স্মরণ শক্তির বিভিন্ন প্রকাশের প্রতি ভক্তি ও শ্রদ্ধার প্রতীক।
আগুন, শত্রু, যুদ্ধ, দুর্গম স্থান, কঠিন পথ বা ভয়ের সময় ভক্ত দেবীর শরণ গ্রহণ করেন। দেবীকে পরম আশ্রয় ও রক্ষাকারী শক্তি হিসেবে স্মরণ করা হয়।
যারা দেবীর শরণ গ্রহণ করেন, তাঁদের কঠিন পরিস্থিতিতে রক্ষার জন্য প্রার্থনা করা হয়। এই অংশে দেবীর কৃপায় দুঃখ, ভয় ও বিপদের উপর জয়লাভের ভক্তিপূর্ণ বিশ্বাস প্রকাশ পেয়েছে।
যারা ভক্তি সহকারে দেবীকে স্মরণ করেন, তাঁদের জীবনে উন্নতি ও আধ্যাত্মিক সহায়তার প্রার্থনা করা হয়। দেবীর আন্তরিক স্মরণের মাহাত্ম্য এখানে প্রকাশিত হয়েছে।
দেবী বিভিন্ন শক্তিশালী রূপে প্রকাশিত হন। চামুণ্ডা, বারাহী, ঐন্দ্রী ও বৈষ্ণবী প্রভৃতি দেবীর বিভিন্ন রূপ নিজ নিজ বাহন ও শক্তির সঙ্গে প্রকাশিত হয়।
মাহেশ্বরী বৃষের উপর, কৌমারী ময়ূরের উপর এবং লক্ষ্মী পদ্মের উপর বিরাজ করেন। এই রূপগুলি দেবীর বিভিন্ন দিব্য শক্তি ও গুণের প্রতীক।
দেবী উজ্জ্বল রূপে প্রকাশিত হন এবং ব্রাহ্মী হংসের উপর বিরাজ করেন। সমস্ত মাতৃশক্তি দিব্য অলঙ্কারে সজ্জিত হয়ে তাঁদের মহিমা ও ঐশ্বর্য প্রকাশ করেন।
সমস্ত মাতৃশক্তি অসাধারণ আধ্যাত্মিক শক্তিতে যুক্ত। বিভিন্ন অলঙ্কার ও রত্নে সজ্জিত তাঁদের রূপ দিব্য শক্তির মহিমা ও সৌন্দর্য প্রকাশ করে।
দেবীর বিভিন্ন শক্তি নিজ নিজ বাহনে বিরাজ করে শঙ্খ, চক্র, গদা, শক্তি, হল ও অন্যান্য অস্ত্র ধারণ করেন। এগুলি অশুভ শক্তির বিনাশ ও ভক্তের রক্ষার প্রতীক।
দেবী খেটক, তোমর, পরশু, পাশ, কুন্ত, ত্রিশূল ও শক্তিশালী ধনুক ধারণ করেন। এই অস্ত্রগুলি বাধা ও অশুভ শক্তির বিরুদ্ধে দিব্য শক্তির প্রতীক।
দেবী দানবীয় শক্তির বিনাশ, ভক্তের রক্ষা এবং দেবশক্তির কল্যাণের জন্য এই অস্ত্রগুলি ধারণ করেন। তাঁর উগ্র শক্তির মূল উদ্দেশ্য ধর্ম ও রক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠা করা।
ভক্ত মহাউগ্র ও পরাক্রমশালী দেবীকে প্রণাম করেন। দেবী মহাশক্তিশালী, মহোৎসাহী এবং মহাভয় বিনাশিনী। তাঁর কৃপা ভক্তকে সাহস প্রদান করে।
ভক্ত দেবীর কাছে বিপদ ও ভয় সৃষ্টিকারী শত্রুদের থেকে রক্ষার প্রার্থনা করেন। পূর্ব ও অগ্নিকোণের রক্ষার জন্য দেবীর বিভিন্ন শক্তিকে আহ্বান করা হয়।
বারাহী দক্ষিণ দিক, খড়্গধারিণী নৈঋত দিক, বারুণী পশ্চিম এবং মৃগবাহিনী বায়ব্য দিক রক্ষা করেন। ভক্ত সমস্ত দিকেই দেবীর রক্ষাকবচ কামনা করেন।
কৌমারী উত্তর ও শূলধারিণী ঈশান দিক রক্ষা করেন। ব্রাহ্মাণী উপর এবং বৈষ্ণবী নীচ থেকে রক্ষা করেন। এর মাধ্যমে ভক্ত চারদিক থেকে দেবীর রক্ষায় আবৃত হন।
চামুণ্ডাকে দশ দিকের রক্ষাকারী হিসেবে আহ্বান করা হয়। জয়া সামনে এবং বিজয়া পিছন থেকে রক্ষা করেন। এটি সর্বদিক থেকে দেবীর সুরক্ষা ও বিজয়ের প্রতীক।
অজিতা বাম দিক, অপরাজিতা ডান দিক, শিখামুদ্যোতিনী শিখা এবং উমা মস্তকের রক্ষা করেন। ভক্ত শরীরের উপরের অংশের সম্পূর্ণ রক্ষা কামনা করেন।
মালাধরী কপাল, যশস্বিনী ভ্রু, ত্রিনেত্রা ভ্রূমধ্য এবং যমঘণ্টা নাসিকা রক্ষা করেন। শরীরের প্রতিটি অংশকে দেবীর একটি করে দিব্য রূপের কাছে সমর্পণ করা হয়।
শঙ্খিনী চোখ, দ্বারবাসিনী কান, কালিকা গাল এবং শঙ্করী কর্ণমূল রক্ষা করেন। ইন্দ্রিয়গুলিকে দেবীর বিভিন্ন শক্তির রক্ষায় সমর্পণ করা হয়েছে।
সুগন্ধা নাক, চর্চিকা উপরের ঠোঁট এবং অমৃতকলা নীচের ঠোঁট রক্ষা করেন। সরস্বতী জিহ্বার রক্ষাকারী এবং পবিত্র বাক্য, জ্ঞান ও প্রজ্ঞার প্রতীক।
কৌমারী দাঁত, চণ্ডিকা কণ্ঠ, চিত্রঘণ্টা কণ্ঠদেশ এবং মহামায়া তালু রক্ষা করেন। বাক্য ও আহারের সঙ্গে যুক্ত অঙ্গগুলির উপর দেবীর সুরক্ষা প্রার্থনা করা হয়েছে।
কামাক্ষী চিবুক এবং সর্বমঙ্গলা বাক্য রক্ষা করেন। ভদ্রকালী ঘাড় এবং ধনুর্ধরী মেরুদণ্ড রক্ষা করেন। ভক্ত এই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অঙ্গগুলির জন্য দেবীর শক্তি ও সুরক্ষা কামনা করেন।
নীলগ্রীবা বাহ্যিক কণ্ঠ এবং নলিকা অভ্যন্তরীণ কণ্ঠদেশ রক্ষা করেন। খড়্গিনী কাঁধ এবং বজ্রধারিণী বাহু রক্ষা করেন। কবচের দেহরক্ষার প্রার্থনা এখানে আরও বিস্তৃত হয়েছে।
দণ্ডিনী হাত এবং অম্বিকা আঙুল রক্ষা করেন। শূলেশ্বরী নখ এবং কুলেশ্বরী উদর রক্ষা করেন। ভক্ত নিজের কর্ম ও শরীরের গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ দেবীর রক্ষায় সমর্পণ করেন।
মহাদেবী বক্ষ রক্ষা করেন এবং মনের দুঃখ দূর করেন। ললিতা দেবী হৃদয় এবং শূলধারিণী উদর রক্ষা করেন। এই অংশে দেবীর শারীরিক ও মানসিক রক্ষাকারী শক্তি প্রকাশ পেয়েছে।
কামিনী নাভি এবং গুহ্যেশ্বরী গুহ্যস্থান রক্ষা করেন। পূতনা, কামিকা ও মহিষবাহিনী শরীরের নিম্নাংশের রক্ষার জন্য স্মরণীয়।
ভগবতী কোমর এবং বিন্ধ্যবাসিনী হাঁটু রক্ষা করেন। মহাবলা উরু এবং সর্বকামপ্রদায়িনী নিম্নাঙ্গ রক্ষা করেন। এই শ্লোকে চলাফেরা ও শারীরিক স্থিতির জন্য দেবীর শক্তি কামনা করা হয়েছে।
নরসিংহী গোড়ালি এবং তৈজসী পায়ের উপরিভাগ রক্ষা করেন। শ্রী পায়ের আঙুল এবং পদাধস্তলবাসিনী পায়ের তলা রক্ষা করেন। পায়ের প্রতিটি অংশ দেবীর রক্ষায় সমর্পিত।
দংষ্ট্রকরালী নখ, ঊর্ধ্বকেশিনী চুল, কৌমারী রোমকূপ এবং বাগীশ্বরী ত্বক রক্ষা করেন। শরীরের ক্ষুদ্রতম অংশ পর্যন্ত দেবীর সুরক্ষা বিস্তৃত।
পার্বতী রক্ত, মজ্জা, মেদ, মাংস ও অস্থি রক্ষা করেন। কালরাত্রি অন্ত্র এবং মুকুটেশ্বরী পিত্ত রক্ষা করেন। শরীরের অভ্যন্তরীণ শক্তিগুলিকেও দেবীর যত্নের মধ্যে সমর্পণ করা হয়েছে।
পদ্মাবতী অভ্যন্তরের পদ্মসদৃশ কেন্দ্র, চূড়ামণি শরীরের তরল, জ্বালামুখী নখ এবং অভেদ্যা সমস্ত সন্ধি রক্ষা করেন। এটি সম্পূর্ণ শরীরের সুরক্ষার প্রতীক।
ব্রাহ্মাণী জীবনসার এবং ছত্রেশ্বরী ছায়া রক্ষা করেন। ধর্মধারিণী অহংকার, মন ও বুদ্ধির রক্ষা করেন। অর্থাৎ কবচ স্থূল শরীরের পাশাপাশি সূক্ষ্ম চেতনাকেও দেবীর রক্ষায় স্থাপন করে।
প্রাণ, অপান, ব্যান, উদান ও সমান—এই পাঁচ প্রাণশক্তির রক্ষার জন্য দেবীকে আহ্বান করা হয়। বজ্রহস্তা প্রাণশক্তি ও কল্যাণের রক্ষাকারী শক্তি হিসেবে স্মরণীয়।
যোগিনী রস, রূপ, গন্ধ, শব্দ ও স্পর্শের রক্ষা করেন। নারায়ণী সত্ত্ব, রজস ও তমস—এই তিন গুণের রক্ষা করেন। তাই কবচ ইন্দ্রিয় ও প্রকৃতির সূক্ষ্ম শক্তিকেও অন্তর্ভুক্ত করে।
বারাহী আয়ু, বৈষ্ণবী ধর্ম এবং চক্রিণী যশ, কীর্তি, লক্ষ্মী, ধন ও বিদ্যার রক্ষা করেন। এই অংশে আধ্যাত্মিক ও পার্থিব উভয় কল্যাণের প্রার্থনা রয়েছে।
ইন্দ্রাণী গোত্র ও বংশ, চণ্ডিকা পশু, মহালক্ষ্মী সন্তান এবং ভৈরবী স্ত্রীর রক্ষা করেন। দেবীকে পরিবার ও গৃহস্থ জীবনের রক্ষাকারী শক্তি হিসেবে স্মরণ করা হয়।
দেবী ভক্তের পথ রক্ষা করেন এবং শুভ পথে চলার জন্য আশীর্বাদ করেন। ক্ষেমকরী যাত্রার এবং মহালক্ষ্মী ও বিজয়া গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থান ও রাজদ্বারের রক্ষার সঙ্গে যুক্ত।
কবচে কোনো কারণে যে স্থানগুলি অনরক্ষিত থেকে যেতে পারে, ভক্ত সেই সমস্ত স্থান দেবীর কাছে রক্ষার জন্য প্রার্থনা করেন। পাপনাশিনী জয়ন্তীর মাধ্যমে সম্পূর্ণ সুরক্ষা কামনা করা হয়।
ভক্ত শুভতা ও দেবীর সুরক্ষা স্মরণ করে জীবনের পথে এগিয়ে চলার ভাব ধারণ করেন। কবচে আবৃত ব্যক্তি যেখানেই যান, সেখানেই দেবীর সুরক্ষার আশ্রয় লাভ করেন—এমন ঐতিহ্যগত বিশ্বাস রয়েছে।

কবচে সুরক্ষিত ব্যক্তি তিন লোকেই সম্মানিত হন—এমন ঐতিহ্যগত বর্ণনা রয়েছে। দেবী কবচকে এমন এক পবিত্র জ্ঞান বলা হয়েছে যা দেবতাদের জন্যও দুর্লভ।

Devi Kavacham may be recited daily as part of regular Devi worship and spiritual practice. There is no need to wait for a particular festival or auspicious day. A devotee may choose a fixed time, maintain a clean and peaceful place of worship, and recite the Kavacham with devotion, clear pronunciation and concentration.
For daily practice, morning after bathing is traditionally convenient. It may also be recited during evening worship according to one's personal routine and family tradition.
