With the स्थापना of Shri Shri Radha Madhab and Shrimati Radharani at Nandi Bari, the spirit of celebration reached a new height. Gradually, beyond the traditional observances of Durga Puja, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja, and Maha Shivaratri, other festivals also became an integral part of the cultural life here. Among them, Dol Utsav, marked by the sacred ritual of Holika Dahan, holds a special place.
On this auspicious evening, devotees from the household, nearby areas, and the town gather near the pond beside the Shiva Temple of Nandi Bari. In a divine atmosphere filled with devotion, Lord Radha Madhab and Shrimati Radharani are ceremonially brought among the devotees, as if to join them in the joyous celebration.
The ritual of Holika Dahan is deeply rooted in the timeless story of **Prahlad** and his unwavering devotion to Lord Narayan. Despite the cruel attempts of his father Hiranyakashipu, who conspired with his sister Holika to burn Prahlad in fire, divine grace prevailed. Protected by Lord Narayan—the bearer of Shankha, Chakra, Padma, and Gada—Prahlad remained unharmed, while Holika was consumed by the flames. This eternal message reminds us that true devotion always triumphs over evil.
Reflecting this sacred belief, a symbolic structure of Holika is prepared and set ablaze. It represents the burning away of inner negativity, impurities, and all evil tendencies within us. Through this ritual, devotees seek purification of the mind and the awakening of pure devotion.
After the fire ritual, devotees offer *abir* at the holy feet of the Lord, marking the beginning of Dol Utsav. The entire experience becomes deeply spiritual—something that goes beyond words and is felt only through the heart.
Holika Dahan at Nandi Bari is not just a ritual—it is a divine expression of faith, tradition, and the eternal victory of good over evil.
