📖 Savitri Satyavan Vrat Katha | সম্পূর্ণ ব্রতকথা
According to the sacred Mahabharata (Vana Parva), in ancient Bharatavarsha there ruled a righteous king named Raja Ashwapati in the kingdom of Madra Desh. His queen’s name was Malavi (also called Malabhi in some traditions). Though wealthy and powerful, they had no child for many years.
সন্তান লাভের জন্য রাজা অশ্বপতি বহু বছর তপস্যা ও মা সাবিত্রীর আরাধনা করেন। দেবী প্রসন্ন হয়ে কন্যা সন্তানের বর দেন। দেবীর কৃপায় জন্ম নেন অতুল রূপসী ও ধর্মপরায়ণা কন্যা — সাবিত্রী। দেবীর নাম অনুসারেই তাঁর নাম রাখা হয় সাবিত্রী।
When Savitri came of age, her father asked her to choose her own husband. During her journey she met Satyavan, son of the exiled blind king Dyumatsena and Queen Shaibya, who lived in a forest hermitage after losing their kingdom.
সত্যবান ছিলেন বনবাসী রাজপুত্র, সত্যবাদী, ধর্মপরায়ণ ও মহাপুণ্যবান। সাবিত্রী তাঁকেই স্বামীরূপে নির্বাচন করেন।
But Sage Narada warned King Ashwapati: Satyavan possessed every virtue, but he had only one year to live. সব জেনেও সাবিত্রী নিজের সিদ্ধান্ত পরিবর্তন করেননি। তিনি বলেন— “একবার যাকে মন দিয়েছি, তিনিই আমার স্বামী।”
After marriage Savitri lived in the forest with her husband and served her blind in-laws with devotion. As the destined day approached, she observed severe fast, prayer and sacred vrat for three days.
নির্ধারিত দিনে জ্যৈষ্ঠ মাসের অমাবস্যা তিথিতে সত্যবান কাঠ কাটতে বনে গেলে সাবিত্রীও তাঁর সঙ্গে যান। এক পবিত্র বটবৃক্ষর নিচে হঠাৎ সত্যবানের মাথা ঘুরে যায় এবং তিনি সাবিত্রীর কোলে প্রাণত্যাগ করেন।
Then Yamraj, the Lord of Death, appeared to take Satyavan’s soul. But Savitri followed Yamraj on foot through the forest path. তার ভক্তি, জ্ঞান ও ধর্মময় বাক্য যমরাজকে সন্তুষ্ট করে।
Yamraj granted her boons. First she asked sight and kingdom restored for her father-in-law. Then she asked a hundred sons for her father Ashwapati. Finally she asked sons for herself through Satyavan.
তখন যমরাজ বুঝলেন— স্বামী জীবিত না হলে এই বর পূর্ণ হতে পারে না। সাবিত্রীর প্রজ্ঞা, সতীত্ব ও ভক্তিতে প্রসন্ন হয়ে তিনি সত্যবানের প্রাণ ফিরিয়ে দেন।
Satyavan returned to life, King Dyumatsena regained his kingdom, and Savitri became immortal as the ideal of Pativrata Dharma.
